Romania: opened first new railway line since 1989

Sighisoara-Danes segment, speed up to 160 km/h

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 27 LUG - The Romanian state railway company CFR has opened to traffic the newly built segment Sighisoara-Danes, "the first such work after 1989," the portal Romania Insider reported.

The Sighisoara-Danes segment includes significant engineering works, a bridge over the Tarnava Mare river (135 meters long), the Sighisoara Tunnel (401 meters long) and the Danes Tunnel (969 meters) long, the longest railway tunnel built in Romania after 1989.

The new railway will allow train to circulate at a speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour, Romania Insider noted. (ANSA).
