Serbia: survey, people worse off than five year ago

Data show economic growth and unemployment decreasing

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 26 LUG - Although several statistical data say that the Balkan country is recording a steady economic growth and decreasing unemployment, a significant part of the Serbian population say that they are worse off today than five years ago, according to a survey of the magazine New Serbian Political Thought.

Almost 44 percent of the population feel that they are worse off now than they were five years ago, 36.1 percent feel that the situation is the same and 19.5 percent say they are better off, the poll revealed, the N1 TV reports.

The results of the survey, published on the influential Serbian weekly Vreme, said as well that 60.4% of the respondents cannot afford a vacation, 69.2% that they noticed a rise in crime and violence. (ANSA).
