16 July, 14:54
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 16 LUG - Austria supports the European Union enlargement process in the Western Balkans area and the region remains a key-priority for the political leadership in Vienna, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz told the Greek daily Kathimerini in an interview published on Sunday.

According to Kurz, Kathimerini reported, Kurz added that by providing a credible path to the EU to the Balkans the European Union will also protect and serve the EU's political, economical and security interests.

Kurz welcomed as well the recent deal between Skopje and Athens on the new name of the former Yugoslav Republic, adding that the agreement "shows that persistent negotiations and diplomacy work." In the same interview, Kurz asked also for the EU-Turkey negotiations to be "stopped immediately", as Turkey has moved out from Europe and from European values in recent years.
