Slovenia:Jansa will meet Pahor, doubts on vote of confidence

Ongoing negotiations to form an alternative government

10 July, 14:53
(ANSA) - LUBIANA - Slovenia's president Borut Pahor will meet Saturday the President of the Democratic Party (SDS), the conservative Janez Jansa, winner of the June 3 general election, according to a statement released by the presidential bureau.

In all likelihood, the reason for the meeting is the decision to give Jana the official mandate to form a coalition government. There are doubts on Jansa's decision whether to step aside or not, in the event he does not find the 46 votes needed for the Parliament's vote of confidence. At the same time, negotiations are being conducted by Marjan Sarec, chairman of the homonymous civic list (LM), who presented an alternative coalition agreement on Monday to five potential government partners - Social Democrats (SD), the Modern Center Party (SMC), New Slovenia (NSi), Party of Alenka Bratusek (SAB), and Pensioners' Party (DeSUS) - with the aim of forming a cabinet.

Separate meetings are being held with the Left (Levica), which does not sit at the joint negotiating table. (ANSA).
