(ANSA) - BELGRADE - Serbia, Lithuania and Romania are the three European countries that registered the highest growth in medical service costs in 2017, according to the study 'Medical Trends Around the World' of Mercer Marsh Benefits, local media in Romania reported.

In 2017, Serbia recorded a 'medical inflation' of 17.5%, followed by Lithuania with 16.7%. Romania ranked third for the increase of medical cost, with 15%. The average increase in Europe registered in 2017 was 7.6%, according to Mercer Marsh Benefits. A strong growth in medical costs, well above the estimated inflation rate, was registered also in Bulgaria (+13%), Poland (+10.1%), Hungary (+10%) and Latvia (+8.9%). The study forecasts an increase of medical costs in these countries also in 2018.

The medical inflation in Romania was caused the higher investments in private medical infrastructure, technology development and higher salaries in the public sector, said Silvia Dumitrescu of Mercer Marsh Benefits Romania, as quoted by Romania Insider. (ANSA).
