(ANSA) - TRIESTE - More than 6 million euros in funding from the EU to support several projects, Istria's accession within a year and commitment to involving Slovenia as well, and a new logo. At today's ''Euregio senza confini'' EGTC meeting in Trieste, between the governors of Veneto, Luca Zaia, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, and Carinthia, Peter Kaiser the Austrian Land took over the Euregio presidency from the Veneto Region ''after five years that actually should have been a bit less numerous'', added Zaia, remarking that he was leaving a well-established structure.

''Over 6 million for projects involving territories, production activities and environment - the governor of Veneto added- but I want to mention the cycle paths, created through networking between Carinthia and Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto''. Kaiser announced that there will be a meeting between the Chambers of Commerce in November to strengthen the collaboration between these entities. ''Regions - he underlined - have an increasingly important role in the Union and the EGCT is a positive example on the European level, we have also laid the foundations for enlargement to Slovenia and Istria, an enlargement that we can define as historic''.

Fedriga - taking part in the Euregio meeting for the first time - expressed the hope that ''it will be possible to strengthen relations with neighboring regions'' on many issues such as ''culture, productive activities and Chambers of Commerce. We hope that we can reach other areas such as Slovenia and Istria, in order to strengthen cross-border projects that represent the future of Europe''. (ANSA).
