Merkel, we will co-operate with Italy on migrants
Conte, 'a lot at stake for the EU '

(ANSA) - ROME, JUNE 19 - ''Italy is one among the countries that
are welcoming and have welcomed many migrants'', and we intend
''to work very closely'' on this issue. ''Germany is also
directly affected'', so this cooperation is in everyone's
interest. That's what chancellor Angela Merkel said at a joint
press conference with Italy's prime minister Giuseppe Conte.
''There is a lot at stake for Europe'', Conte said, ''the issues of immigration and the economic governance of the EU can and must be an opportunity to forge a stronger and fairer Europe, which is able to meet the citizens' basic needs''.
