Czech Rep: Port of Trieste in Prague to strengthen relations

Eight trains per week heading towards Ostrava

(ANSA) - PRAGUE - Promoting Trieste, port at the heart of Europe and important railway hub on the Adriatic coast, and strengthening relations with the Czech Republic are the objectives of the presentation scheduled for Wednesday at the Manes building overlooking the Vltava river, in Prague, organized by the Italian-Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The expasion prospects ''with added value'' were underlined by Zeno D'Agostino, president of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea - Port of Trieste. D'Agostino described ''the creation of a system that includes both logistics and the offer of industrial areas to host companies and Italian operators in the Czech Republic''. The president of the port also recalled the 300 year-old tie between the Czech Republic, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Kingdom, and the Trieste harbour. This historic relationship was also highlighted by Mario Carini, head of Global Corporate & Commercial CEE and Reinsurance at Assicurazioni Generali, the insurance company which has a branch in Prague, where the German-speaking writer Franz Kafka worked in 1908. Today 8 trains per week leave Trieste heading towards Ostrava (Czech Republic) a town in the north of the country.

Among the most important figures, the increase by 93% in the transport of crude oil between 2016 and 2017 through the TAL pipeline from the Trieste terminal. (ANSA).
