Serbia: NIS searching for oil, gas in Vojvodina

(ANSA) - BELGRADE - The company Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) will start soon explorations for possible oil and natural gas reserves in Vojvodina, in the north of the Serbia, local media reported.

Researches will be conducted through seismic explorations in areas close to Zrenjanin, Zabalj, Vrbas, Novi Sad, Backi Petrovac, Temerin and Titel, NIS science sector representative Dusan Brstina said. The research area is 720 square kilometers wide.

NIS ensured that no damages will be caused to agricultural land during the research, adding that eventual damages will be compensated. Russian company Gazprom Neft controls 56.1% of NIS. The Serbian governments holds 29.8 % of shares, the rest by small shareholders. (ANSA).
