Romania: employment rate closer to 2020 target

68.8% in 2017 for population aged 20-64, +2,5% YOY

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 18 APR - The employment rate of the population aged 20-64 has increased in Romania to 68.8% in 2017, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) said today.

The employment rate for the population aged 20-64 in Romania increased by 2.5% between 2016 and 2017.

In a statement, INS noted that the employment rate of people aged 20-64 is now "at a distance of 1.2 percentage points of the national target of 70% established in the context of the Strategy Europe 2020." The employment rate for the population aged 15-64 was 63.3% in 2017, increasing by 2.3% compared with the previous year, INS said. In 2017, the economically active population in Romania was 9,120,000 persons. Of the total, 8,671,000 were employed and 449,000 unemployed. (ANSA).
