Economy: IMF improves GDP forecasts for CEE countries

Strong growth for Slovenia, Romania, Poland

(ANSA) - BELGRADE - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has improved the GDP growth forecast for several countries in Central- and Eastern Europe in its last World Economic Outlook.

The IMF has significantly increased the forecasts for Slovenia to 4% in 2018 from the 2.5% forecasted in the previous World Economic Outlook of October 2017. According to IMF, the GDP in Slovenia will decelerate to 3.2% in 2019. IMF increased its forecast also for the Czech Republic (from 2.6 to 3.5%) and Slovakia (from 3.7 to 4%).

In the so-called 'Emerging and Developing Europe' area, the IMF increased the 2018 GDP growth forecast also for Poland (from 3.3 to 4.1%), for Hungary (from 3.4 to 3.8%), for Bulgaria (from 3.2 to 3.8%), for Romania (from 4.4 to 5.1%) and for Croatia (from 2.7 to 2.8%). The IMF confirmed its October outlook for Serbia, with a GDP growth of 3.5% in 2018.
