Brenner Tunnel: media, potential budget cut in Austria

Platter, this would delay the end of the work

(ANSA) - BOLZANO/BOZEN - Spending review in Austria's transport sector could have long-term repercussions on the Brenner tunnel. According to the Tiroler Tageszeitung, a 100 million euro cut to the budget could be made. However, the ministry denied that intention. Due to delays in the work - they said - this amount will simply not be spent this year but at a later time. Tirol Land's governor Guenther Platter fears further delays in the event of a funding cut and underlines that the project has already been reduced by 450 million euros. The works for the Brenner tunnel should be completed in 2026. Eighty of the 230 kilometers of tunnels have already been completed and another 20 km will be added this year, the Dolomiten newspaper reported.
