Accidents at sea: fire brigade, between FVG, Koper, Croatia

Project for North Adriatic Sea, 3 countries, CEI coordinator

(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 9 MAR - A team made up of 24 firefighters specializing in rescue of passengers from burning boats, belonging to the Fvg Fire Brigade, Gasilska Brigada in Koper (Slovenia), and firefighters of the Regional Command of Istria (Croatia), will be established withing two years and will operate in the Upper Adriatic sea, thanks to the NAMIRG project (North Adriatic Maritime Incident Response Group), financed with just over 900 thousand euros from the European Commission and the DG Echo (Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations). The project is coordinated by the CEI (Central European Initiative) based in Trieste, where it was presented today.

''The NAMIRG project, which aims to enhance the safety of maritime transport is a model in terms of international outlook and is fully integrated into the strengthened collaboration between the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the Italian State with Croatia and Slovenia, and favours the coordination among all our strongholds'', the President of the FVG Region Debora Serracchiani pointed out.

NAMIRG - a press release reported - is a 24-month project that will end on December 31, 2019 and consists of coordinated actions that will involve all the regional stakeholders in terms of emergency management. The team made up of 24 firefighters - 8 from each country - will be supported by the coordinated actions of civil protection, health posts, port authorities and maritime operators.(ANSA).
