Cinema: Slovenia in "Closest elsewhere" by Elisabetta Sgarbi

Documentary portraying the country at the Turin Film Festival

19 November, 18:44
(ANSA) - TRIESTE - A journey towards the borders of the ''elsewhere'' that is closer to us; a land, a people, a culture that is just beyond an unstable threshold, made to be crossed and erased a million times by movements of people, languages, habits. Slovenia is portrayed in the new documentary by Elisabetta Sgarbi, ''The closest elsewhere'', a Betty Wrong-Rai Cinema co-production on a subject by Sgarbi with Eugenio Lio, which will be presented at the forthcoming edition of the Turin Film Festival. The documentary offers many portraits of Slovenia: through the eyes of reporter and writer Paolo Rumiz; then comes poet Alojz Rebula, who's now blind but still continues to write, followed by writer Claudio Magris, on his trails through the Monte Nevoso, and Marisa Madieri - his wife - exile from Istria.

Today's Slovenia is also described by the young and lively European Spirit of Youth Orchestra, directed by Igor Coretti-Kuret, and founded to go beyond any border and build cultural and emotional bridges in Europe. And finally Slovenia in the songs of Boris Pahor, interpreted by Toni Servillo. Four screenings of the film are going to take place in Turin, with a preview-event scheduled for November 27, including a public meeting with Elizabetta Sgarbi, Emanuela Martini, Claudio Magris, Paolo Rumiz, Igor Coretti-Kuret, and the European Spirit of Youth Orchestra performing a concert.
