EU: Croatia joins Schengen Information System
First step towards full membership, less waiting time at border

(ANSA) - ZAGREB - Croatia, a member of the European Union
since 2017, has joined the Schengen Information System, the
European database which aims at exchanging data on the identity
of certain categories of persons and things.
Joining the system is a very important step toward the country's full membership to the Schengen area. Croatia has applied for membership exactly two years ago. The direct link of the Croatian border police to European databases will facilitate controls along borders with Hungary and Slovenia and help reduce the long queues which were recorded in recent months.
