Rama reconfirmed as premier of Albania

Socialist Party at 52% with 40% of ballots counted

26 June, 17:04
(ANSA) - TIRANA - Albanian Premier Edi Rama on Monday looked set to win a convincing victory in Sunday's general elections, with his Socialist Party taking around 52% of the 40% of ballots counted. This was 10% more than in 2013.

The Democratic Party, the main opposition force led by Lulzim Basha, was instead polling 29%. The Socialist Movement for Integration (LSI), Rama's main government ally until a few weeks ago, saw its consensus grow by 4.5%. The Party for Justice, Integration and Unity also saw its support grow by around 2%. Albania has a system of proportional representation on a regional basis. The results, if confirmed, would give Rama 75 of the 140 available seats in parliament. Definitive results are expected on Monday evening. (ANSA).
