Macedonia: Zaev presented new government composition

Coalition between Social Democrats and Albanian minority

29 May, 12:34
(ANSA) - SKOPJE - Macedonia'a Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDSM), presented late in the evening on Sunday the composition of his new government, which is now expected to receive a vote of no confidence from MPs.

The cabinet, that is supposed to be able to break through the vicious circle of a long political crisis that has paralyzed the Balkan country for more than two years, is a coalition between Social Democrats and two parties representing the numerous Albanian minority (25% of the population).

Zoran Zaev's cabinet will be composed of 15 ministers and 6 ministers without a portfolio. Ten dicasteries were assigned to SDSM, 5 to the Dui party, the largest one among the Albanian minority, and other offices were assigned to representatives of the Alliance for the Albanians. The foreign minister (Nikola Dimitrov), defense minister (Radmila Sekerinska) and finance minister (Dragan Tevdovsko) are members of the SDSM. The priorities for the new government - the ruling party underlined in a statement released in Skopje - will be the reforms which are necessary to the country's democratic transformation and the acceleration of Macedonia's process of Euro-Atlantic integration, which has been without a government since the early elections held on 11 December last year.
