(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB. 25 - Along the border between Serbia and Hungary, migrants and refugees continue to attempt to enter illegally the EU and reach Western European countries; 224 attempts were recorded yesterday, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) reported today, and 32 migrants were sent back to Serbia.

In the last three days, according to RTS, 562 illegal attempts to enter Hungary were recorded. The Hungarian authorities - that in autunm 2015 built a metal and barbed wire fence along the border with Serbia - allow the legal entry into the country of no more than 15 immigrants per day, among those who submit a regular application for asylum. The borders of the countries along the so-called Balkan route were officially closed to migrants and refugees coming from the Middle East and Central Asia almost a year ago, but these migrants try to enter Europe through illegal means and often use smugglers, in order to continue their journey towards some Western European country (ANSA).
