Romania PM Grindeanu meets Tusk, vows to fight corruption

(ANSA) - BUCHAREST - Romanian Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu had on Friday, in Brussels, a meeting with European Council President Donald Tusk, the Romanian Prime Minister reaffirming the government's commitment to continue the fight against corruption and expressing willingness to work with the European institutions.

According to a government press release, during the meeting the two officials tackled the main topics on the European agenda, as well as the priorities of the new government in Bucharest.

''The Prime Minister presented the government's priorities, focusing on economic measures to stimulate growth and employment, particularly important in the current European context and of direct interest for the citizens. Also, PM Grindeanu reiterated the government's commitment to continue the fight against corruption, and expressed the willingness to work with the European institutions,'' the release reads.

In turn, European Council President Donald Tusk welcomed Romania's commitment to the European project and to a stronger European Union in the context of preparations for taking over the EU Council Presidency by our country in the first half of 2019, but stressed the need to advance in the fight against corruption and ensure the irreversible nature of these efforts, a press release from the European Council informs.

PM Grindeanu claimed on Friday, in Brussels, that he hasn't received a 'to do' list regarding the judicial system in Romania.

Later in the afternoon, PM Grindeanu had a meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. (ANSA).
