(ANSA) - ROME, OCT. 22 - In Italy, the percentage of young adults living with their parents has increased from 65.4% in 2014 to 67.3% in 2015, while in the EU it dropped from 48,1% to 47.9%. Italy is surpassed only by Slovakia (69.6%) and followed by Malta (66.1%), whereas it is very far from France (34.5%), Germany (43.1%), the United Kingdom (34.3%) and Denmark (19.7%).

The tendency of young Italians not to leave their parents' home is even more evident in young people between 25 and 34 years old, who, having finished their studies, should start working.

In Italy, because of lack of employment opportunities for young people, the percentage of those who are between 25 and 34 years old and living in the family home has reached 50.6% (44% in 2011), 22 points higher than the European average. If you look at the youngest group (18-24 years old), 94.5% are living with their parents (79.1% in the EU), while for those aged between 20 and 24 the percentage drops to 93% (59.8% in France ). Males are 73.6% of young people aged between 18 and 34 (almost 3 out of 4), and they were 71.8% in 2014. Women are 41.7%. Not all those who stay in the family home are unemployed: 40.3% of this age group - Eurostat underlines - work full time, whereas 18.8% declare themselves students and 24.3% are unemployed. (ANSA).
