Migrants: Tusk, we say no to 'à la carte' solidarity

Slovak EU Presidency will present a proposal on resettlement

21 October, 12:24

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS - In Europe, ''there can not be 'à la carte' solidarity'' on the issue of migrants and their resettlement.

''On this we all agree'', said President of the European Council Donald Tusk at the end of first day of the ongoing European summit. The current mechanism provided by the EC for the resettlement in other EU countries of refugees coming from Italy and Greece is not working and a new proposal on this issue will be presented by the Slovak presidency of the EU in December. Tusk and European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker both emphasized, during the press conference, the desire to return as soon as possible to the Schengen system and to effective control of the EU's external borders.
