Bosnia: EU does not recognise referendum result, no legal

Commission spokesperson, it cannot change decision

27 September, 16:22

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS - ''The referendum that was held yesterday has no legal basis'', said the spokesperson of the EU Commission, Maja Kocijancic, commenting on the controversial consultation that took place yesterday in the Republika Srpska (RS), the entity with Serbian majority of BiH, strongly backed by President of RS Milorad Dodik, despite Bosnia's High Court has declared it unconstitutional. ''This referendum cannot change the final binding decision made by the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina - the spokesman added -; we therefore encourage the country's institutions to resolve the dispute over the day of Serbska Republic, establishing legal processes within the existing constitutional framework and of course through constructive dialogue'', Kocijancic said.
