Montenegro-Kosovo: green light for diplomatic relations

After Pristina offered guarantees to Montenegrin minority

22 September, 16:43

(ANSA) - PODGORICA, SEPT. 22 - Montenegro has decided to officially establish diplomatic relations with Kosovo at ambassadorial level, believing that the country has obtained sufficient guarantees on respect for the rights and interests of the Montenegrin minority in Kosovo. This was stated by President Filip Vujanovic when he met in Podgorica Ambassador Ferhat Dinisa, on the eve of his inauguration in Pristina.

After the recognition of independence proclaimed by Pristina in February 2008, Montenegro and Kosovo established diplomatic relations in 2010, though limited to the presence of business representatives. The authorities in Podgorica conditioned the increase of relations at amabssadorial level to the official recognition of the minority status of the Montenegrin community in Kosovo .
