(ANSA) - ZAGREB - Seven day ahead of early parliamentary
elections in Croatia, polls show an uncertain outcome, given
that neither of the two main coalitions can count on majority
support. Even though the center party led by former Prime
Minister Zoran Milanovic is slightly ahead, it can not rule
unless it forms a post-election coalition. Next Sunday, the
Croats will return to the polls for the second time in less than
a year, after the failure of the premier Tim Oreskovic, who led
for six months a government composed of center party and a new
centrist party called Most (Bridge). The Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ, Conservative) had been forced to form this awkward
coalition since none of the major parties had won the elections
last November. The government, however, was not able to hold
out, due to internal disagreements over the management of some
crucial ministries and a case of conflict of interest involving
the HDZ leader, Tomislav Karamarko, who was forced to resign and
retire from active politics in June.(ANSA).
