29 August, 13:29
(ANSA) - BELGRADE - Violent clashes took place Sunday in Kosovo, between police and Albanian residents, who were determined to prevent a group of Serb refugees from going to an Orthodox monastery to attend a religious service.

These accidents, Serbian media reported, were recorded in the village of Musutiste, not far from Suva Reka in southern Kosovo, where local Albanians blocked the road preventing the passage of three buses carrying about 150 Serbs, forced to change program and visit another monastery.

In clashes with protesters, who threw stones and bottles at the police, the police used batons and tear gas. There were many casualties on both sides and dozens of demonstrators were arrested. The head of the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo Marko Djuric, who spoke of ''explosion of extremism and hatred against the Serbian people, strongly condemned the violent behavior of the Kosovar Albanians.
