(ANSA) - BRUSSELS - Poland and Estonia are the countries with
the highest number of female graduate in Europe, according to
Eurostat. The Eu's statistical office issued some figures dating
back to 2014. 58% of the 5 million EU graduates are women, but
in fields such as engineering, mathematics and computer science,
men have achieved the highest number of qualifications. Among
the countries with the highest rate of female graduates are
Poland and Estonia (both 66%); Germany (51%) and Ireland (52%)
have an almost perfect gender balance. Poland is also the
country with the largest number of female graduates in
engineering and construction (39%), whereas the one with the
lowest number is Ireland (15%), compared with a European average
of 27%. Women are overrepresented in the education sector, where
in 2014 they accounted for 80% of the degrees, with figures
ranging from 62% in Luxembourg to 97% in Romania. As for health
and welfare, Estonia's the country with the highest rate of
female graduates (90%), while the one with the lowest is Cyprus
(65%), compared with an EU average of 75%. Taking into account
the overall number of graduates, Italy is, along with the United
Kingdom (both 16%), the countries where humanities are the most
popular career path. In Romania, Austria and Finland, more than
one graduate in five (21%) achieved a diploma in engineering or
construction.
