Reconciliation does not make us forget the pain

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB. 10 - ''No reconciliation can make people
forget the pain right away, but it can help people and countries
overcome all the wounds suffered on both sides when nationalism
and ideologies prevailed over all the elements that characterize
our common identity''. This is what the senate speaker Pietro
Grasso said at the end of the ceremonies held on the occasion of
the Day of Remembrance.
''I'm conscious that in our continent the factors affecting the development of cohesion are much stronger than the factors which divided us in the past'', Grasso added, ''and we have warmly welcomed Slovenia's and Croatia's accession of into the EU in 2004 and 2013''. (ANSA).
