Hungary: Strasbourg Court rejects anti-terror legislation

Law breaches privacy rights of European citizens

12 January, 19:47

(ANSA) - STRASBOURG, JAN. 12 - The European Court of Human Rights has rejected the Hungarian law regulating covert surveillance as part of anti-terror measures and has ruled that they breach the fundamental privacy rights of European citizens.

According to the ECHR, the bill does not contain ''any guarantee which can be deemed sufficiently accurate, effective and complete'', with regard to how the measures provided under this bill are authorized and implemented and the procedures that citizens are allowed to use in order to appeal against these measures whenever they happen to be subject to them.
