(ANSA) - ROME - Thousands of migrants stranded at the borders
along the Balkan route are facing increasingly difficult
conditions, because of the restrictions imposed in the past two
days by Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia, according to
Oxfam, which calls for the earliest possible reopening of
borders to all people arriving from Greece, in order to avoid
worsening the humanitarian crisis. ''On November 20, several
countries along the Balkan route are allowing only migrants from
Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq to cross borders'', says Sara
Tesorieri, Oxfam migration policy advisor in Europe. ''People
belonging to other nationalities, who are seeking protection in
Europe, are locked out at the present time. This decision is
likely to leave thousands of people stranded and facing an
uncertain future''. Oxfam also points out that it has launched a
petition, ''That's enough! Migrants are not invaders'', to call
on the EU member countries to accept their refugee quota and
draw up an effective plan to address the needs of those who are
fleeing war, hunger and persecution. (ANSA).
