Twenty-two EU countries sign against agriculture budget cuts

Funds needed to ease effects of Russian ban on EU products

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS - Twenty-two EU Member states signed a joint declaration against the proposal of the European Commission to reduce the funds dedicated to agriculture by 448 million euros.

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain asked for these funds to be used for mitigating the effects of the Russian sanctions. EU sources referred that several other Member Countries share the views expressed in the Declaration although they did not sign.

The declaration has been attached to the letter written by the President of the EU Agriculture Council, Maurizio Martina, to the President of the EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council, Pier Carlo Padoan. (ANSA).
