Kosovo Foreign Minister first time in Belgrade

Hoxhaj at regional conference for economic cooperation

23 October, 16:42
(ANSA) - BELGRADE/PRISTINA - The Minister of Foreign affairs of Kosovo participated for the first time in a gathering organised together with the representatives of Serbian Government. Enver Hoxhaj, head of diplomacy in Pristina, was present at an encounter in Belgrade dedicated to the economic and political cooperation in the region together with the representatives of other Western Balkan countries. "My visit to Serbia will be the first one of a foreign affairs minister from Kosovo", Hoxhaj announced in Pristina, underlining that this was an ulterior signal of "normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia as sovereign and independent countries".

The reactions were different in Belgrade, which does not recognise the independence of Kosovo, and which has accepted the participation of participants from Kosovo only under condition that the conference is held under "Gymnich" format, which foresees the indication of participants only by their name, without the presence of national symbols. European commissioners Jyrki Katainen and Stefan Fuele, responsible for economic and monetary affairs and for enlargement, respectively, participated at the conference, together with Andrea Orizio, responsible for Balkans at the Italian foreign ministry. The Belgrade meeting has been agreed during the Western Balkans conference, held on 28 August in Berlin. (ANSA).
