Serbia's increased exports to Russia 'cannot harm anyone'
Country sees food ban as opportunity despite Brussels demands
22 August, 16:13According to local media citing Serbian government, the European Union asked Serbia not to use Russia's sanctions to increase its exports out of "solidarity and common values" as an EU membership candidate.
"Our capacity, even if it were fully used, is so small for the Russian market to pose any danger to anyone. We have so far been exporting about 0.2 percent of Russia's total imports in the field of agriculture and if we were to use our full capacity, it would still be only 0.4 or 0.5 percent", the Minister pointed out speaking for the public broadcaster, RTS.
Not having joined the sanctions against Russia, Serbia sees the counter-sanctions (a food ban Russia imposed on EU, USA and several other Western countries) - as an opportunity to increase its exports and further strenghten its external economic relations. (ANSA).
