Slovenia: elections, Cerar absolute winner (34,6%)

Jansa's SDS in second place. Turnout, lowest ever recorded

(ANSA) - LJUBLJANA - Counting of votes in Slovenia confirms the exit polls: the big winner of the election is Miro Cerar, who gained 34.61% (36 seats out of 90), an absolute record in the last 24 year of parliamentary history in Slovenia. Cerar, who founded his party, SMC, a few months ago, said he believes that the great success achieved in the elections yesterday means first a clear and strong mandate from the electorate, to bring Slovenia out of the crisis economic. The Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), center-right, now in second place, has harshly criticized the election results. The party of former Prime Minister Janez Jansa has dropped from 26% in the elections held in 2011 to 20.70%. Deputy secretary of SDS Zvonko Cernac said that there were some irregularities in the elections, which are therefore considered 'illegitimate'.

Cerar's clear victory must therefore turn into a strong responsibility and in hard work. ''The confidence expressed by Slovenian citizens should be rewarded'', Cerar said last night to Slovenian media who asked him to comment on the results. The turnout was 50.9%, , lowest ever recorded in the country's history. As for the results: Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS, center-right), 20, 70% and 21 seats: Desus, Pensioners' Party (center-left), 10.21% and 10 seats; United Left, 5.97%, 6 seats; Social Democrats, 5.95%, 6 seats; Nova Slovenija (center-right), 5.54% and 5 seats; Alenka Bratusek's Alliance (center-left), 4.34%, 4 seats. Two seats are reserved for representatives of Italian and Hungarian minorities. (ANSA).
