(ANSA) - ROME - Painting, sculpture and photography to tell a
country's identity. Slovakia is 'unveiled' in Rome, while it is
looking forward to presenting itself at Milan's Expo. Starting
today until June 30, the central hall of the Vittoriano will
host ''Artisticamente ...'', an exhibition that offers three
visions of the small Eastern European country and its people,
through the eyes of three young artists - Juraj Kollar tefan
Papo and Jan Kekeli.
Their works lead to reassessing traditions and classical
genres and invite visitors to reflect on the state of the art,
that ''is the state of private and public things'', the
exhibition curator Katarina Bajcurova said on the sidelines of
the vernissage.
This exhibition sounds as an invitation to visit the Slovak
pavilion at the Expo in Milan, recalled Ms Maria Krasnohorska,
ambassador to Italy. Slovakia, she emphasized, ''a country full
of positive energy, a place to visit when you want to 'recharge
your batteries', thanks to its unspoilt nature, multifaceted
culture, traditions and innovations''.
Then there is an important symbolic message in this
exhibition, according to ambassador: ''To the Slovaks, this
exhibition hosted by the Vittoriano sounds like a return to the
roots of their own history. ''This monument to Vittorio
Emanuele'' is the place where modern Italian-Slovak relations
were born.''In 1918, she recalled, ''on the famous steps of the
Altar of the Fatherland, the diplomat, soldier and statesman
Milan Rastislav tefanik received from the representatives of the
Italian government the military flag under which the
Czechoslovak Legion went to fight on the River Piave, alongside
Italian soldiers. After WW1, Italy was the first country to
recognize the right of the Slovaks and the Czechs to proclaim
their own republic''. (ANSA).
