(ANSA) - ROME - Estonia arrives in Rome and presents itself to the Italian public by means of an exhibition of paintings dating back to the 1st half of the twentieth century. ''The colours of the North, Estonian art between 1910 and 1945'' is the title of the exhibition which is hosted by the Vittoriano complex, as part of ''Rome toward the Expo'', the programme involving the embassies of the countries which will take part in the universal exhibition in Milan. In all, 45 works created by 19 Estonian artists, from the private collection of one of the most famous patrons in central and northern Europe, Estonia's entrepreneur Enn Kunila. Open until 12 February next, the exhibition contains many masterpieces of Estonian painting - dating back to the 1st half of the 20th century - a ''golden age'' during which nationalist painting was born, an euphoric era during which the small Baltic country experienced for the first time its independence (between 1918 and 1945). Among the most valuable paintings, the young exhibition curator Eero Epner said speaking with ANSA New Europe, ''are the works by Konrad Magi, Nikolai Triik and Hans Laikmaa''. (ANSA).
