(ANSAmed) - PALERMO, OCTOBER 28 - A recent workshop held at
the Italian pavilion of Expo Milano 2015 discussed the blue
ueimprove the quality of fish products and ensure food safety
for an ever larger number of fish consumers.
The workshop was organized by the national research center
CNR's Institute for Coastal Marine Environment in collaboration
with the Fisheries and Agriculture Department of the Sicilian
regional government and in coordination with Sicilian
universities and the Mazara del Vallo Fisheries Production
District through Sprint Sicilia.
In the presence of productive activities councillor's office
director Alessandro Ferrara, the head of the Sicilian fisheries
district Giovanni Tumbiolo presented the project 'New Routes;
Blue Economy', which was started in Sicily with EU funds.
The aim is to support development and the strengthening of
the enterprises in the district through the use of new
technologies to raise the quality and food safety levels of the
products.
''The project contributes to the Expo's themes. The blue
economy,'' Tumbiolo said, ''is a model of socio-economic
development that begins from the sea, from Sicily, but does not
end there. The blue economy is an economy of individual an
collective responsibility and calls for the regeneration and
restoration of marine and land resources and through greater
economic, social, environmental and cultural awareness.''
