Sicilian district exhibits historic collection

(ANSA) - MILAN, OCTOBER 19 - A collection of wrapping paper from the 20th century used for oranges and lemons exported abroad is among objects regarding the citrus industry from the present and past showcased by the Sicilian citrus district at Milan Expo 2015.

Visitors until Thursday, in the Spazio Convivio 2, will be able to admire true ''treasures'' for those who love history, art and traditions. The rich collection of original wrapping pape rhas been organized by Antonino Catara, an emeritus professor at the agriculture department of the university of Catania, together with other specialists. Collected in a large album protecting them from dust and humidity, the papers still used to wrap up high-quality Sicilian oranges and lemons for markets in Italy and abroad were admired by thousands at the world's fair, which has registered a peak in visitors over the last 10 days.

Visitors, including artists and designers, observed the collection, a precious testament of labels where language and graphic design reflect the times (including the beginning of 1900ss with Liberty designs) and the evolution of the language.

Of particular interest is paper in Cyrillic for the Russian market, as well as those for Scandinavia and Germany. (ANSA).
