(ANSA) - BRUSSELS - EU Commission gave go-ahead for a € 76.4 million energy plan to improve the efficiency and environmental performance of the 'Kosovo B' thermal power plant, the largest electricity generator in the Balkan country. The EU High Representative Josep Borrell announced the decision during his first official mission in Pristina.

The funding will be provided through the European pre-accession funds (IPA). The project aims to reduce the emissions of the plant by introducing some filters and improving the energy supply, making it reliable and clean. The emissions of harmful dust, the EU executive explained in a press release, will be cut by 35 times and nitrogen oxides 4 times, aligning the parameters with the EU standards and the ambitions of the new Green Deal.
