Serbia: again roadblocks against expensive gasoline

In Belgrade and Novi Sad. Government condemns

11 June, 19:13
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUNE 11 - In Serbia new road blocks in road traffic were spontaneously set up by drivers protesting over the increase in fuel prices. A road was blocked in Belgrade along an important bridge over the river Sava, and in Novi Sad, the country's second biggest city, nearby a market. The sudden roadblocks began last Friday. Such behaviour was harshly criticised by government's representatives.

Interior minister Nebojsa Stefanovic expressed concern during the weekend, and today the minister of transport and infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic has declared inadmissible these roadblocks, that violate the rights of citizens and endanger peaceful coexistence. According to defence minister Aleksandar Vulin, these roadblocks are 'political terrorism'. President Aleksandar Vucic also stigmatised spontaneous protests in cities and along motorways. The price of petrol and diesel in Serbia is currently among the highest prices across the whole region. (ANSA).
