Energy: Romania-Bulgaria gas pipeline by end of year

Announced by Romanian energy ministry

16 June, 19:06

(ANSA) - TRIESTE - The gas pipeline between Romania and Bulgaria should be operational by the end of the year, said the State secretary at the Romanian energy ministry, Corina Popescu, as reported by local media. Bulgaria, which currently imports almost all of its gas from Russia through the pipeline crossing Ucraine, has increased its effort to diversify its energy supply sources.

The 25 km long Ruse-Giurgiu pipeline, was initially supposed to enter in force by 2014, but its construction has been postponed several times due to problems relative to the construction of the last part of the interconnection, which passes under the Danube river. (ANSA).
