(ANSA) - MOSCOW - During his visit to Moscow tomorrow, Greek
Premier Alexis Tsipras will meet not only with Russian President
Vladimir Putin, but also with Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev and
Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church. This was
announced by the head of Greek government in an interview with
Tass. Tsipras will also hold a conference at the University of
Moscow.
Greece and Russia share the same Orthodox faith. A discount on
gas deliveries and new loans are among the possible offers that
Moscow could make tomorrow during Tsipras's visit, the business
daily newspaper Kommersant reported today, citing a source in
the Russian government, according to which Moscow wants in
return access to Greek assets, as yet unspecified.
In 2003 Russia's Gazprom wanted to buy Greece's state-owned
Public Gas Corporation DEPA, but then dropped its bid not having
received sufficient guarantees on the company's financial
position. (ANSA).
