(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAR 23 - In Serbia, 79% of citizens are
against their country's accession to Nato, 10% are in favor, the
latter are mostly people with a high level of education and a
university degree, according to a survey conducted by the
Institute for European Affairs on the occasion of the 20 years
since the Nato bombing of Serbia (24 March- 9 June 1999). In the
survey - conducted in collaboration with the research
organization Ninamedia between 8 and 14 March on a sample of
1,207 citizens - 31% said they were in favor of a collaboration
with the Atlantic Alliance, while 64% said they did not want to
accept Nato's apologies for the spring 1999 raids, whereas 30%
could accept them instead, and 6% replied that they did not have
a precise stance on this issue. At the same time, the survey
revealed that for most Serbs the reasons for the raids were the
military, political and economic interests of the United States
and the western European countries. (ANSA)
