(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 26 FEB - Hungary registered a natural decrease of its population by around 41,000 persons in 2018, new data made public by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) today show.

KSH said that the number of live births in Hungary in 2018 was 89,800, 1,777 fewer than in 2017, while 131,100 people died, 0.4% less year-on-year. The natural decrease of the Hungarian population rose from 40,097 in 2017 to 41,200 persons in 2018 (+3.0%), the statistical office added.

The estimated total fertility rate was 1.49 in 2018, the same values as in 2017. "The intention of childbearing has not changed, the number of live births has declined due to the fall in the number of women in childbearing age," KSH said. The estimated number of the resident population was 9,764,000 at the end of last year. (ANSA).
