(ANSA) - TRIESTE, JAN 22 - Serbian director Zelimir Zilnik
won the CEI Award (3,000 euros) in the 13th edition of the
Trieste Film Festival. In the documentary section, Zilnik
presented the movie ''The Most Beautiful Country in the World'',
which deals with the issue of integration focusing on the lives
of some young immigrants in Vienna.
According to the jury's motivation, the award recognizes
''the aesthetic and intellectual coherence of a leading author
of the Yugoslav cinema who has been experimenting with new forms
and languages since the 1960s and who in its latest film returns
to highlight those who are marginalized today, on one hand, and
the new fears of Western societies, on the other''.
Born in Novi Sad, Serbia, in 1942, Zilnik is one of the main
players of the 1960s ''nouvelle vague'' (also known as black
wave). Since his first short films, Zilnik has dealt with many
issues and stories about everyday life in a complex social and
economic context.
In 1969 Zilnik won 'The Golden Bear' at the Berlin Film
Festival with ''Early Works''. At the Trieste Film Festival, the
Cei (Central European Initiative) also supports a screenwriting
workshop, involving students from film schools and young
professionals from Central and Eastern European countries, and
the co-operative event ''When East Meets West'', organized by
the FVG Audiovisual Fund. (ANSA).
