(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 02 APR - Almost 2,000 migrants and refugees have crossed from Turkey to the Greek islands in the Eastern Aegean in March, the Greek daily Kathimerini wrote today, quoting official government data.

In March, 1,968 migrants crossed by sea from Turkey. Of the total, 1,369 arrived on Lesvos, 541 on Samos and 58 on Chios.

The number of arrivals in March was higher compared to the 1,504 who crossed from Turkey in January and to the 997 in February. It is higher also in comparison to the 1,400 migrants and refugees who arrived by sea in March 2017. However, the arrivals are very much lower compared to the 8,600 who reached the Greek islands in March 2016. (ANSA).
