(ANSA) - ROME - The United Nations Organization is predicting the average age of Albanian people to be 50.6 years old in 2055.

According to Ibna press agency, this average was 36.2 in 2015, while in 1950, the average age in Albania was 21.

Albania's population will not only age, but the structure of age categories is expected to change in the future too.

As for INSTAT, the country's agency of statistics, the dependency ratio of youngsters registered a fall of 53 children per 100 grownups in 1989 to 32 children in 2011. The ratio saw a further drop following the 2011 census. This dependency is expected to fall by a similar rate as the increase of dependency of elderly people until 2021 (a fall of up to 25 youngsters and an increase up to 23 elderly people per 100 grownups).
