(ANSA) - BELGRADE, NOV. 10 - The judges of the International
Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) rejected
today the request from Ratko Mladic's defense to postpone the
first judgement scheduled for November 22.
The request aimed at giving the Serbian physicians the
opportunity to examine the former general, whose health is
precarious.
Ratko Mladic (75 yo) was tried for genocide and war crimes and
against humanity. He is held responsible in particular for the
massacre of 8,000 Muslims in Srebrenica in July 1995 - defined
as genocide by international justice - and for the long and
bloody siege of Sarajevo.
Mladic, arrested in May 2011 after absconding for a long time,
has been hit by two strokes and a heart attack so far. Moreover,
he has been diagnosed with brain disorders. In 2015, some
Russian medical consultants examined him in the Hague. According
to those physicians, his health conditions were such that he
would not be able to face the trial sessions. (ANSA).
