(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 29 GIU - The European Court for Human
Rights in Strasbourg ruled that Hungary will have to pay a 540
thousand euros fine to seven small churches for damage caused to
them by the new law on religion introduced in 2012. As reported
by Daily News Hungary, prior to the new legislation these
churches received financial support from the State, but were now
requested to register as 'incorporated churches' in order to be
able to ask for State funding.
According to the Strasbourg court's sentence, Hungary breached
the Article 9 (freedom of expression, conscience and religion)
and 11 (freedom of assembly and association) of the European
Convention on Human Rights.(ANSA).
