Serbia-Albania soccer incident 'premeditated', Vucic says

Serbian Prime Minister:'EU officials warned hours before match'

15 October, 17:17
(ANSA) - TRIESTE - Serbian Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vucic, said that he had warned EU representatives three hours before the match Albania-Serbia that "a provocation is being prepared".

The incident was "an organised action with the aim of damaging the stability in Serbia and the entire region", Vucic added, Serbian news agency Tanjug reported. The match was suspended after a drone carrying provocative Albanian symbols flew over the stadium, resulting in a raw amongst players. Due to tensions over Kosovo recognition, Albanian fans were not allowed to access the stadium. Following the incident, Serbian police questioned the Albanian delegation watching the match from VIP seats, including the brother of the Albanian president, Edi Rama. According to local and regional media, including Al Jazeera Balkans, Olsi Rama was found in possession of the remote controller used for conducting the drone. Speaking to Albanian media, Rama denied having any connection with the incident. After the suspension of the match, thousands of citizens celebrated in the streets in Kosovo capital, Pristina. (ANSA)
