(ANSA) - LJUBLJANA, NOVEMBER 26 - The member states of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) approved unanimously Slovenia's proposal to establish in Ljubljana the International Research Institute on artificial intelligence (Ircai) under the aegis of the agency. According to a press release issued by the foreign ministry, the Institute should take its first steps already at the beginning of 2020. Initially, it will be operational within the Jozef Stefan Institute (IJS), the country's largest applied research institute.

The task of the IRCAI will be to provide an open and transparent environment that, in addition to research and discussions in the field of artificial intelligence, will also provide public policy support to draw effective action plans. The center will support UNESCO studies, provide advice to representatives, international authorities and the general public on systemic and strategic solutions to explain artificial intelligence in many different sectors. The center will also make an important contribution to the development of global training and awareness programs and the creation of a network for research and knowledge exchange.
